Warren D. "Gunny" Robb, Sr., 87, of Brush Run Apartments, Hollidaysburg, died Thursday morning at the Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born in Harrisburg, the son of the late Samuel and Muriel (Troutman) Robb. He married Betty M. Jacobs on June 6, 1973, in Winchester, Virginia. She preceded him in death on May18, 2005. Surviving are four children, Donna M. Thomas and husband Ronald of Lewistown, Warren D. Robb, Jr., of Hollidaysburg, Sharon L. Specht of Altoona, Thomas W. Robb of Pittsburgh, numerous grandchildren including Rev. James R. Thomas of Lewistown, Patricia Jacobs and husband Kenton of York, Pa, David W. Thomas and wife Abbey of Lewistown and two great grandchildren, Thomas and Holly Jacobs. Also surviving is his special friend, Mary Lechene of Patton. Gunny was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II serving from August 6, 1943 until January 10, 1946. He participated in the consolidation of the Northern Solomon Islands and in the capture and occupation of Okinawa. He also participated in the Phillipine Operation. On September 9, 1947, he re-enlisted with the Marine Corps and served in Korea until his discharge on August 15, 1952. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Park Hills Country Club. During his working years he worked for the Federal Civil Service Middletown Air Depot in Middletown, PA. He also retired as an Engineer and Road Foreman of Engines for Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central Railroad and ConRail. He was a graduate of the William Penn High School, The Harrisburg Academy and Lehigh University. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, boating tennis, softball, football and golf. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. Friends will be received from 1:30pm until the 2pm funeral service on Monday, February 1, 2010, at the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc. (www.maukandyates.com), with his grandson, Rev. James R. Thomas, officiating. Interment at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
