Jane Allen

Jane Allen of Altoona passed peacefully to her final home on Friday. She was a daughter of Thomas and Ruth (Yingling) Michael. On July 18, 1959, she married her best friend and the love of her life, Jerome Allen. Jane was a kind and loving wife and mother to their son, Jeff. She was proud to be called "Grandma" by her three beautiful granddaughters: Shanae, who now resides in Santa Cruz, Calif., and Sarah and Marah, both of Altoona. She also is survived by two brothers: Joseph and Thomas and wife, Mary Jane (Pierce); and three sisters: Geraldine and husband, Al Reimer, Ruth and husband, Bob Mastos, and Naomie Thomas, all of Altoona. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Marie, and a sister-in-law, Betty (Kauffman) Michael. Jane always thought of others before herself, remembering special events for every family member and friend. Her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews will never forget "Aunt Jane" and the special birthday cards with the $2 bill and fruit strip gum. During her life, she worked for Baltimore Life Insurance Co., Hollidaysburg Trust and Omega Bank, where she retired in 1996 after 22 years of ser- vice as a bank teller. Jane loved to travel to places near and far, and she also spent many hours in her flower gardens. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, by Rev. Keith J. Schmuck at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, (www.maukandyates.com) followed by visitation until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in memory of Jane to your favorite charity.
