Donna G. Hess, 71, Altoona, died Friday. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late Russell M. and Gladys (Hamer) Glenn. Surviving are three sons: Raymond (Kathy) Hess Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., M. Daniel (Karen) Hess of Wilmington, Del., and Eric D. (Kristen) Hess of Pittsburgh; a sister, Sandra (Steve) Wagner of Bellwood; and six grandchildren: Scott Hess, Kristin Hess, Christopher Schmidt, Kendall Hess, Nathan Hess and Marisa Hess. Donna was a graduate of Altoona High School and received a degree from Altoona Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse, certified in gerontology. She retired from the Presbyterian Home as the director of nursing for 17 years and previously worked for 20 years at Altoona Hospital in the recovery room and on the IV team. She was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and an elder and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Altoona Choral Society, past board member of the Blair County Association for the Blind & Visually Handicapped and volunteer and secretary for Call for Action. Donna loved the arts and sang in the Altoona Choral Society and in several ACT productions. She was a patron of the symphony, Blair County Civic Music Association and ACT. Donna also enjoyed music, reading, puzzles and sports. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2010, and 10 to the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc. (www.maukandyates.com). Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
