Joseph J. Progl

Joseph J. Progl, 56, of Altoona, passed away Saturday after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 4, 1953, in Altoona, a son of Joseph and Doris (Robley) Progl. He married Paula M. Hollern on July 9, 1983, in Altoona. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Joseph D. Progl and wife Diane (Breon) of New Alexandria, Justin M. Progl of Altoona, three grandchildren, Joseph Paul Progl, Olivia Louise Progl, Natalee Ranee Progl, his mother, Doris Progl, two sisters, Stacy Nalley of Altoona, Cathy Fochler in Florida, and a brother Rick Progl of Huntingdon, close friends Dick VanScyoc and the Burkett family, father in law Paul Hollern, step mother in law Judith Hollern, mother in law Patricia Hollern, brothers in law, Chris Hollern(Patty), Joseph Bauer(Shirl) and sister in law, Amanda Kovach(Matt). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his faithful beagles, Lucy and Midnight. He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Otto Progl and John Robley, grandmothers, Louise Progl and Theda Robley, his father, Joseph Progl and sister in law Lora Brashears. He retired as a fleet foreman for the City of Altoona following 30 years service. He was very dedicated to his hunting, fishing, auto mechanics, 4-wheeling, gardening, woodworking, boating, camping and enjoyed music, photography, cooking, wine making and reading. He loved all of nature. Friends will be received from 11am until 1pm Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., immediately followed by a memorial service at 1pm with Charles Burkett, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Pa. Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
