Virginia I. McCoy, 85, of Valley View Home, formerly of Ashville and Buckhorn, died Tuesday morning at Altoona Regional Health System, Bon Secours Campus. Virginia was born in Juniata, a daughter of the late Joseph E. and Anna (Bryson) Mangus. She was twice married, first to Orville Mann who was killed in action August 1942 during World War 2, then in June 1951 to Fred R. McCoy who died December 30, 1993. Surviving are 5 grandchildren, Glenda S. Yerty, Stephen R. Yerty, Mark A. Yerty, Terry E. Gallagher, and Carrie I. Gallagher; 8 great grandchildren; 3 foster daughters, Deborah Davensizer, Cathy Tellish, and Deborah Caldwell; a foster son, Timothy Shumac; and a foster granddaughter. Virginia was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Gallagher, in 1987, and a brother Herbert E. Mangus, two sisters, Olive M. Conrad and Eleanor Wilkins. Virginia worked for Jaffa Food Service for 15 years as a cook. She was a member of Buckhorn Bible Church. She was also a volunteer at the James E. VanZandt VA Medical Center. Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., Juniata. Funeral and Committal Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Gerald Conrad officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Buckhorn Bible Church would be appreciated.
