Bernice L. Davis

Bernice L. Davis, 84, Meadow View Nursing Center, Berlin, Pa., formerly of Altoona, died Wednesday at Somerset Hospital. She was born in Karthaus, Clearfield County, daughter of Howard M. and Cora O. (Gaines) Moore. She married Matthew W. Davis, and he died May 1, 1985. Surviving are a daughter, Carol L. of Altoona; two sons: Melvin J. of Friedens and Charles M. of Huntingdon; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters: Maxine Cole, Hope Marie Rowe and Cecil Moore; three brothers: Melvin, Aaron and Emmet Boyd Moore; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Gill and Kenneth Moore; and two sisters: Ethel and Erma. Bernice was a homemaker and formerly worked at the Altoona Area High School cafeteria. She enjoyed reading the Bible, listening to music, serving others, gardening and working with her flowers. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2010, Bishop Irvin Knieriem and Pastor Gerald Walters officiating. Interment at Blair Memorial Park.
