Shirley L. Mowery, 77, of Altoona died Thursday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Elmer H. and Nova F. (Fleming) Bookhamer. She married Elvin L. Mowery on Nov. 21, 1951, in Altoona, and he preceded her in death in 1968. Surviving are a daughter, Sharon N. Goodman and husband, David F., of Altoona; a son, John E. and wife, Dara A., of Bedford; six grandchildren: Ronnie G. Stahl and wife, Vicki A., David C. Goodman, John T. Mowery, James A. Mowery Jr., Jacob E. Mowery and Alydia M. Yothers; a great-grandson, Bryant C. Stahl; four sisters: Jean, Vivian, Barbara and Linda; two brothers: Dick and Roy; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, James A.; and a daughter, Karen L. Shirley was a homemaker and years ago had worked at the Slinky factory. She enjoyed cooking, especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. We'll miss our family meals every Sunday that the whole family would attend. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
