Mildred B. Mauk September 30, 1915 -- July 13, 2010 Mildred B. Mauk, 94, a resident of the Presbyterian Village, Hollidaysburg, formerly of 714 Broadway, Juniata, died Tuesday morning at the home. She was born in Martinsburg, Pa, a daughter of the late S. Bruce and Gertrude (Claar) Beegle. She married J. Preston Mauk on December 31, 1941, in Portsmouth, Virginia. He preceded her in death on September 29, 2002. Surviving are her daughter, Deedra Mauk Kazmaier and husband John of Hollidaysburg, one grandson, Christopher Mauk Kazmaier and wife Jessica of Carlisle, three sisters, Daisy Barley of Roaring Spring, Verna Blough and Wilma Smith, both of Homewood Martinsburg, sisters in law, Dorothea Beegle Nelson of Hollidaysburg, Betty Mae Beegle of Homewood, Marguerite Mauk McCloskey and husband Jim in Kentucky, one brother in law, Richard D. Mauk of Seminole, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mauk was a graduate of Cove High School and Shippensburg State Teachers College. She began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse where in the winter she began the day by stoking the fire. She taught school at the Norfolk Naval Base during World War II. The majority of her teaching career was spent in the Altoona Area School District where she taught school for almost 40 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was very active in church activities for over 66 years. She was a member of Delphi Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and was active in Friends of the Altoona Public Library, Altoona Women's Club and was a volunteer at the Altoona Hospital for many years. She always enjoyed traveling with her husband, Preston, and appreciated having visited every state in the United States. They enjoyed spending winters at their Pompano Beach Florida home leaving there each year with many happy memories. Friends will be received from 2-6pm Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday, July 16, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata, with Rev. Sharon Erb , officiating.
