Kenneth B. Veit, 77, of Altoona died Tuesday evening at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born in Altoona, son of David and Mary Margaret "Peg" (Bergantz) Veit. He married Leta M. Laich on April 5, 1963, in Winchester, Va. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Lani M. Otto and husband, David, of Altoona; a son, David E. and wife, Jeri, of Spruce Creek; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by all of his siblings. Kenneth was a graduate of Altoona High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was employed as an electrician with Conrail, retiring after 42 years of service. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and also belonged to the Bavarian Aid Society and VFW Post 8685 Fort Apache. Kenneth enjoyed bowling, camping, hunting and especially spending time with his family. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, the Rev. John Klingeman officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any U.S. veterans organization.
