Walter L. "Pap" Koller, 76, of Altoona, died Sunday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Alfred and Minnie (Powell) Koller. He married Sara E. Luke July 6, 1955, in Winchester, VA. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, three daughters, Tracy England, wife of Craig, of Altoona, Vickie Knisely, wife of Jake, of East Freedom, Christine Koller, of Altoona; one son, Bruce, of Altoona; 8 grandchildren, Nicole Snowberger, wife of Duane, Erin England, Rob Koller, Eric Koller and Amie Pastore, Kaylee Koller, Ken Knisely, Troy Knisely, and Shawn Knisely; 5 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Emily, Pandora, Alanna, and Teagan; numerous nieces and nephews; and close family friend, Connie Cottle. Walter was preceded in death by a brother Edward Koller. Walter was a self-employed contractor and had, over his lifetime of work, been employed at various times by Pennsylvania Truck Lines, Railway Express, Vaughn Trucking, Consolidated Freight, and Vic's Mini Store. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata, the Bavarian Club, Frohsinn Singing Society, Duck's Unlimited, Swiss Rifle Club, and Cesare Battisti. He was a 1952 graduate of Altoona High School and a veteran of the United States Navy Reserve. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., Juniata. A Funeral and Committal Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata, with the Rev. Elizabeth Hess officiating. Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church, 408 North 6th Street, Altoona, in Walter's name.
