Darryl W. Hoover, 68, Altoona, passed away Friday evening at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Ralph D. and Mary V. (Michelena) Hoover. He is survived by his mother of Altoona; nephews Clint A. Carothers and wife, Tracy, of Tyrone and Randy S. Carothers of Altoona; and a niece, Cheryl A. Luciano and husband, Joseph, of Altoona. He was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda J. Carothers. Mr. Hoover was a 1960 graduate of the Altoona Area High School. He served in the U.S. Army, entering in 1964 with the 70th Armored Regiment in Augsburg, Germany. He retired as an assemblyman from Veeder Root in August 2007. He was a member of the Whenwood United Methodist Church. Darryl loved to ride his bicycle and enjoyed playing tennis. He always had an interest in cars and was especially fond of his antique Camaro. He also enjoyed model trains and music and had an extensive collection of 45 rpm records and vinyl albums. Darryl never married and was a loving and caring son who took great pride in caring for his mother. Darryl also enjoyed his friendship with Ted Schwab of Altoona and Ronald McLaughlin of Arizona, as well as many other friends and acquaintances. At the request of the deceased, there will be no public viewing or service. The family prefers that memorial contributions be given to a church or favorite charitable organization.
