Stephen Michael "Mike" Grum Jr., 64, Altoona, died Saturday at his residence. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Stephen Michael Sr. and Zella Althea (Buchanan) Grum. He married Sharon Biddle on Dec. 19, 1987. Surviving are his wife; five children: Penny Bush and husband, Kevin, of Altoona and their children, Patrick and Matthew, Stephanie Upstill of Greensburg and her children, Kirsten, Katie and Daulton, Stephen III and wife, Kara, in New Jersey and their daughter, Mitella, Kathy Hazlett and husband, Craig, of Duncansville and their children, Carlie and Zach, and Sherry McIntyre and husband, Brian, of Glendale and their children, Brian, Chelsey and Brandon; two great-grandchildren; three sisters: Sandra Focht and husband, Larry, of Juniata, Nancy Espenlaub and husband, George, of Laurel, Del., and Deborah Weston and husband, Gary, of Tyrone; a brother, John of Altoona; as well as nieces and nephews. Mike was a 1964 graduate of Altoona High School. He was employed as a machinist with F.L. Smithe Machine Co., retiring in February 2009 after 29 years of service. He attended Riggles Gap Bible Church. He was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1964 and served in Vietnam aboard the USS Enterprise from 1965-67. He later served in the 298th Maintenance Company from 1978-88. Mike enjoyed coaching East End Little League, bowling and singing karaoke and especially enjoyed spending time with family. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, Pastor William Ice officiating.
