Richard Glenn Akins

Richard Glenn "Dick" Akins, 90, Greenwood, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at Valley View Home. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Roy and Eleanor (Henchey) Akins. He married Josephine L. Colyer on July 1, 1950, and she preceded him in death on March 26, 2002. Surviving are a brother, Robert Akins of Altoona; and two sisters-in-law: Linda Akins and Norma Colyer, both of Altoona. Having no children of his own, he is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he treated as if they were his own children. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Akins; a sister-in-law, Dot Akins; and a brother-in-law, Clae Colyer. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during WWII. He retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad, Juniata Shops, in 1980 after almost 40 years of dedicated service. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and being in the outdoors. He also enjoyed playing cards and traveling with his wife and close friends. In his later years, he enjoyed eating at Prime Sirloin on a daily basis. Dick will be sadly missed by his family, his dear friends and all who knew and loved him. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), followed by a brief memorial service at 8pm
