Geraldine E. Lowey, 78, a resident of Elmcroft of Altoona in Duncansville, died Friday at Valley View Home. She was born in Altoona, daughter of Sheldon and Cora Dorothy (Ray) Stewart. She was twice married, first to Paul W. Alberts Jr., who preceded her in death Sept. 11, 1971, then to Michael J. Lowey in 1978. Surviving are four children: Debbie Leahey and Richard P. Alberts, both of Altoona, William P. Alberts of Duncansville and Robert P. Alberts of Pittsburgh; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four siblings: Edward Stewart, Julia Risbon and Deborah Baumgartner, all of Altoona, and Betty Diveley of Bradenton, Fla. She was preceded in death by a sister, Darlee Ferdinandi. Geraldine was a graduate of Altoona High School. She retired in 1990 from the Blair County Prison after many years of service as an LPN. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, Pastor Dale DiBernardinis officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
