Carl L. Wright, 78, Altoona, died Sunday afternoon at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born in Water Street, son of James L. and Anna M. (Goodman) Wright. He married Phyllis J. Buddle on June 1, 1957, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Juniata. Surviving are his wife; and five children: David L. of Everett, John L. and wife, Michele, of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Lisa J. Harten, Deanna L. Mitchell and Marsha L. Wright, all of Altoona. He was preceded in death by a brother, T. Eugene; and a sister, Norma J. Kephart. Carl was a 1950 graduate of Juniata Valley High School and attended Shippensburg State Teachers College. He served in both the National Guard in 1952 and the U.S. Army from 1952-54, stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., and attained the rank of corporal. He was employed with Brumbaugh Body Co., where he custom built fire trucks for 33 years. Carl was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Juniata, serving as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school and men's Bible class teacher, Congregational Council president and lector. He also was a 50-year member of Logan Lodge, where he served as chaplain for numerous years, and belonged to the Jaffa Shrine, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Altoona Consistory, Alexandria Sportsmans Club and Tyrone Sportsman's Association. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, trap shooting, attending Curve games and knitting hats and scarves for various charities. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends will also be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at the funeral home, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. by the Rev. John Klingeman. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
