Bonnie Jean Smeal

August 7, 1949 — March 2, 2011

Bonnie Jean (Lear) Smeal, 61, Altoona, died early Wednesday morning at her residence. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Eugene and Geraldine (Hunt) Lear. She married Terry L. Smeal in 1969 at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, and he also died March 2, 2011. Surviving are two sons: Christian T. and wife, Amanda, and Corey L. and fiancee, Dara Moore, all of Altoona; and six grandchildren: Jade, Destrie, Shelby, Heston, Coltan and Braven. Bonnie was a graduate of Altoona High School. She was employed as an LPN for more than 20 years, was a police officer with the Hollidaysburg Police Department for more than two years and worked as a real estate agent for 18 years. Bonnie was a very accomplished photographer and was a member of the Altoona-Blair County Photo Society. She loved all of God's creatures, especially her Jack Russell terriers, horseback riding and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered as always willing to go out of her way to help someone. Friends will be received from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com). A funeral liturgy outside of Mass will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Committal will be at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.
