Rocco Anthony Misciagna, 79, of Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Juniata, passed away on Saturday at the home. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Gennaro and Guiseppine (Maitino) Misciagna. Surviving are three brothers: Michael of Long Beach, Calif., John of Northfield, Ohio, and Nicholas of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and four sisters: Esther Dorazio and Mary Carnell of Altoona, Evelyn Urbanek of Coupon and Dolores Johnston (Charles) of Dupont. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Jerry and Chester; two sisters: Josephine Haselbarth and Edith Altiero; three brothers-in-law: Lawrence Dorazio, Donald Carnell Sr. and Clair Urbanek Sr.; and two sisters-in-law: Hazel and Lois Misciagna. Rocco was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Korea, Vietnam, Germany, Italy and Hawaii. He was most recently employed by Home Nursing Agency. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Sons of Italy and several area VFW posts and volunteered his time with the DAV at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center. Rocco enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially valued his friendships with staff and fellow residents at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in both Eisenhower Hall and Arnold Hall. He took pride in his Juniata community and its history and was responsible for the establishment of the first Juniata Reunion celebration, which was held annually at the Juniata VFW Post 8685. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2011, at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home Inc. (www.maukandyates.com), where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 5 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy Outside of Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the funeral home. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
