Larry Hand

Hand, Larry W.---6-20-1950-----4-15-2011 Larry W. Hand, 60, Altoona, died early Friday morning at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Robert and Catharine (Bowers) Hand. He married Susan L. Hemcher on January 17, 1976, at Grace United Methodist Church in Altoona. Surviving are his wife Susan of Altoona; two children: a son Eric Hand of Brooklyn, NY., and a daughter Melissa Kennedy of Altoona; two grandchildren: Devon and Aliyah Kennedy of Altoona; 9 brothers and sisters, as well as a large extended family. Larry retired from Commercial Envelope as a machine mechanic after over 25 years of service, and had previously worked at Conrail as a certified welder. He was a graduate of Altoona High School, and served in the United States Army in Viet Nam. He was a member of Wehnwood United Methodist Church. He enjoyed reading and learning of new and developing technologies, loved his dogs, and especially loved spending time with his family. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc.(www.maukandyates.com). A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 18, at Alto Reste Park, with Rev. Evelyn Madison, officiating.
