Philip T. Harkless, 85, Altoona, died on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at ARHS, Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Walter and Margaret (Beverage) Harkless. He married Jean Miller on May 19, 1947, in Wolfsburg, PA. She preceded him in death on September 23, 2010. Surviving are his daughter Debra Harmon and her husband Jeff and their son David, all of Stephens City, VA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Ralph Harkless and his sister Montgomery Leslie. Philip retired from Conrail after many years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Radford during WW II. He was a member of Juniata United Methodist Church, where he was active and sang in the choir for many years. He volunteered at Altoona Hospital-tower 11-for 13 years. He was a 50 year member of Hiram Lodge F&AM, the Altoona Consistory, Jaffa Temple-where he was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps for many years. He was a former member of Park Hills Country Club where he was an avid golfer. Friends will be received from 4-6 PM, Monday, May 2, 2011, and from 10-11 AM Tuesday, May 3, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., where services will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM, with Rev. Dave Hersh, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grane Hospice.
