Malvin E. Luke, 87, of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Ida Towers and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, died Friday evening at the home. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late John R. and Isabel Luke. Surviving three nephews, George Luke, Sam Luke, both of Altoona, Steve Luke of Chicago, IL, two nieces: Karen Ball of Ft Lauderdale, FL, and Edith Shephard of Altoona, a great niece, Donna Ritts, of Altoona. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, John and Bill and three sisters, Eleanor, Jane and Ethel. He is the last member of his family. He retired as warehouse manager for Chris Craft Yachts in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. For years Malvin's family ran Flecks Store in Juniata. During World War II, Malvin served in the Army from Feb 9, 1943 until Feb 25, 1946. He was assigned to Co B., 1282nd Engr. Combat Battalion and participated in the Battle of Guadalcanal and the Liberation of France. He received the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was a member of the Ft. Lauderdale American Legion. Friends will be received from 2-3 PM at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., (www.maukandyates.com) where a funeral service will begin at 3pm. Interment at Grandview Cemetery with Military Honors.
