Richard E. Johnson, 83, Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, died Sunday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born in Pittsburgh, son of the late James K. and Rosetta E. Johnson. He married Shirley M. Richards on March 26, 1975, and she preceded him in death in May 1994. Surviving are 13 children, including Rosetta (Johnson) Webster and her daughter, Taylor Rose Webster; Richard's sons: Rick, Harry, Kirk, Robert and Richard Jr.; his daughters: Cathleen, Mary, Faith, Minnie, Sheila, Richelle and Holly; and 29 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters: Kelly (Johnson) Baker and Susan Pontegratz. Richard graduated from Altoona High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from Nelson and Sons Produce of Altoona. He enjoyed studying the Scriptures every day and loved the Lord very much. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and will be sadly missed by all. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment will be at East Lawn Cemetery, Tyrone.
