Mangus L. Anderson, 91, of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Altoona, died Wednesday evening at the home. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late John and Cecelia (Hoaglend) Anderson. He married Betty Meinhart who preceded him in death. Surviving are four children: Mangus L. Anderson, Jr. and wife JoAnn, of Spokane, Washington, Terry Anderson and wife Lois of Altoona, Barry Anderson and wife Kathy of Altoona, Peggy Boorman and husband Dave of Osterberg, PA, eleven grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheryl M. Chambers on January 4, 2006. He was the last of twelve children. During his working career, he worked as a pipefitter for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central Railroad, then retired from Conrail in 1981. He served in the Army during World War II, as a Tech/Sgt., at several duty stations throughout Europe, from January 18, 1943 until October 22, 1945. Mangus enjoyed hunting and having nice cars. He was a craftsman of many skills. Friends will be received from 6-8pm Friday, May 13, 2011 and from 10-11am Saturday, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., (www.maukandyates.com) . A funeral service will be held at 11am Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Sneath, officiating. Interment at Grandview Cemetery.
