James J. Myers, 76, Altoona, died Wednesday morning at home after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, son of the late James F. and Sara (Weld) Myers. He married Deloris Freed on March 4, 1957, at Altoona Bible Church. Surviving are his wife Deloris, six children: Sandy Wilkinson and her husband Rusty of Altoona, Debbie Greene of Altoona, Sallie Fleming and her husband Jerry of Altoona, Rebecca Bullett of Gahanna, Ohio, James Myers and his wife Lori of Altoona, Lisa Snyder of Orlando, FL., former daughter in-law Carol Myers, former son-in-law Kenny Greene, one brother Donald Myers and his wife Bettylou of Altoona; seventeen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a sixth great-grandchild arriving the day James passed away, and a seventh great grandchild anticipated within the next three weeks. He was preceded in death by his twin daughters Bonnie and Lonnie Myers, a brother Raymond Myers, and a granddaughter Mercedes Hamilton. James was a 1952 graduate of Altoona High School. He retired as the Director of Council #83-AFSCME Union. He was a member of New Life Community Church, Altoona, and was involved in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, was an avid Steeler fan, and especially enjoyed following all of his grandchildren's activities. Friends will be received from 12 PM to 2 PM, Saturday, May 21, 2011, at New Life Community Church, 621 Bell Ave, Altoona, where a memorial service for James will be held at 2 PM, with Pastor Terry Farr, officiating.
