Michael J Pretola

Michael J. Pretola, 64, Altoona, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011, at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Michael J. Sr. and Margaretta (Moyer) Pretola. Michael is survived by his wife Linda (Shumaker); 4 children: Tanya, Sue, Michelle, Tasha Walls and her husband John; 7 grandchildren: Jamin, Janessa, Dominic, Tyriana, Janice, Cameron, and LaRin; one brother Donald Pretola and one sister Lucille Wallace. Michael was a graduate of Altoona High School, class of 1964, and went on to serve in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman. He was a lifetime member of the UVA Club. When not working in his contracting business of 25 years, Michael enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren's activities, coaching basketball for the elementary school, promoting/sponsoring boxing, playing pool, watching sports, and eating breakfast with his many close friends. Friends will be received from 2-4 PM., Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Altoona Boxing Club (3718 West Chestnut Ave., Altoona, PA 16601), where young athletes develop self-discipline and confidence. This club runs exclusively from community support and donations, and does not charge for boxing lessons. In honor of Mike's battle with MDS, we also invite you to give blood to the American Red Cross.
