Mildred C. Miller, 86, Altoona, died Friday morning at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. She was born in Munson, daughter of the late Adolph and Augusta (Glowatz) Laich. She married James Miller on Dec. 4, 1943, in Champaign, Ill., and he died Aug. 16, 2000. Surviving are two children: Susan Stacey and James A. (Deborah), both of Altoona; five grandchildren: Michelle Farabaugh (Ken), Michael Stacey and Brian, Sean and Jenifer Miller, all of Altoona; two great-grandchildren: Hayden and Alyson Farabaugh; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Daniel Stacey; and four siblings: Gertrude Kutz, Alfred Laich, Hattie Hanna and Robert Laich. She was the last member of her immediate family. Mildred was a graduate of Altoona High School. She retired as a loomer from Bomont Mills in Juniata in 1987 after 24 years of service and then had worked part-time for Mid-State Microfilm for a number of years. She was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was active over the years. Mildred volunteered at Altoona Center for Nursing Care and Bon Secours Hospital until December 2010. She enjoyed water aerobics at Penn State Altoona, going to lunch with her friends and especially spending time with her family and great-grandchildren at family gatherings. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church by Pastor Sharon Erb. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
