Homer Ray Wilt, 76, of Altoona died Sunday morning at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. He was born in Hollidaysburg, son of the late Homer Raymond and Glenda J. (Hoover) Wilt. He married Hazel Romayne Wike on Feb. 9, 1957, in Altoona. Surviving are his wife, Hazel; four children: Glenda Ellis of Altoona, Douglas Wilt and wife, Diane, of Roaring Spring, Melissa Brubaker and husband, Jeff, of Altoona, Shannan Kratzer of Altoona; eight grandchildren: Corey Ellis, Cody Wilt, Samantha Wilt, Jonathan Greene, Nichole Greene, Justin Brubaker, Ashley Brubaker and Nicholas Kratzer; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gloria Ammerman of Altoona; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Wilt. Mr. Wilt retired from Conrail where he began as a clerk and retired as a warehouseman. He was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and at one time was the manager of the basketball team. Following high school, he served two years active duty with the United States Army. His hobbies included golfing, gardening, hunting and sports, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He had been a member of the former Fourth Lutheran Church, having served on church council for many years. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., (www.maukandyates.com), where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson's Research.
