Gloria R. Jackson, 84, Altoona, died Tuesday morning, August 30, 2011, at ARHS, Altoona Hospital Campus. She was born on October 22, 1926, in Altoona, daughter of the late Walter F. and Violet (McMullen) Ross. She married John K Jackson, Jr., on October 27, 1951, in Winchester, VA. He preceded her in death on September 26, 2008. Surviving are three children: Rebecca (Becky) Susan Rice, Janie Kay Wilson (Steven), John Walter Jackson (Jamee); 7 grandchildren: Jodie Faye Fennessey (Richard), Todd Raymond Rice, Jane'e Lynne Wilson, Lindsey Jo Wilson and Kaylin Joanna Wilson, John James Jackson and Jayden Drake Jackson, 2 great-grandchildren: Roderick Augustine and Jackson Taylor Fennessey, one sister, Shirley Dunkle; two brothers: Russell M. Ross and Gene G. Ross, and 3 special sisters in law: Susan Jackson, Patricia Jackson and Jackie Ross and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Richard R. Ross, her sister Beatrice Finney and her son in law Roderick Rice. Gloria retired from Bell of Pa in December 1983, after many years of service, and had been active in her career as a member and past president of the Telephone Pioneers. She was a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was active as a member of the Sunshine Class and the Missionary Society. She was an Altoona High School graduate. She enjoyed gardening, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family, of whom she was so proud. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday, September 2, 2011, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., and from 10-11 AM Saturday, September 3, at Second Avenue United Methodist Church, where a funeral service will be held at 11 AM. Interment at Grandview Cemetery.
