Jack C. Rupe, 90, Altoona, went home to be with his Savior early Wednesday morning at his residence. He was born in Altoona, son of Stephen E. and Ruth (Lockard) Rupe. He married Naomi J. Ellstrom on Feb. 22, 1947, in Altoona. Surviving are his wife of 64 years; two daughters: Debby Rupe of Altoona and Betsy DeGeorge (Steve) in Tennessee; four grandchildren: Carrie Dhanarajan (Ashok), Debbie Harbin (Jefferson), Steven DeGeorge (Lauren) and Diane DeGeorge; a great-grandson, Steven Obed DeGeorge; a sister, Marjorie Emerick (Drew); two brothers: Donald (Barbara) and Dean (Madeline); as well as many loved nieces and nephews. Jack was a 1939 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the U.S. Army as an X-ray technician in the 11th Evacuation Hospital in the European Theater during WWII, serving overseas from 1942-45. He retired in 1989 from the family business, Deininger & Rupe Dental Laboratory. Jack was a member of Altoona Grace Brethren Church, where he taught Sunday school. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, teaching Bible studies and talking to people about Jesus. Friends will be received from 10 until the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at Altoona Grace Brethren Church by Pastors Rod Lingenfelter and Ashok Dhanarajan. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the missions fund of Altoona Grace Brethren Church, North 15th Avenue and Broadway, Altoona, PA 16601.
