Ronald P. Johnston, 67, Altoona, died Sunday morning at the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born in Gallitzin, son of Paul F. and Ann (Lego) Johnston. He married Ethel Rickabaugh on Aug. 2, 1969, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife; two sons: David L. and wife, Penny, and Daniel P. Sr. and wife, Erin; two grandchildren: Daniel P. Jr. and Abigail E.; and six siblings: Pat Decoskey, Shirley Koons, Donna Wilson, Paulette Schmelzlen, Charles M. Johnston and Richard Sunseri. Ronald was a graduate of Bishop Carroll High School, then served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was retired and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where he was active in ministry and president of the finance committee. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Holy Name Society. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com). A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Father David Rizzo officiating. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
