Ruth E Rhodes

Ruth E. Rhodes, 86, Altoona, died Sunday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. She was born in Altoona, daughter of Miller J. and Ellen (Hastings) Waite. She married Dayton L. Rhodes on June 25, 1952, and he died Feb. 1, 1984. Surviving are four sons: Robert (Judy) and James (Kathy), both of Sinking Valley, Douglas of Altoona and John (Susan) of Gilroy, Calif.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Waite. Ruth was a graduate of Altoona High School and Altoona Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from Altoona Hospital as a registered nurse. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sinking Valley, and was active in the choir, and she enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Friends will be received from 9:30 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sinking Valley. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Sinking Valley.
