Velda Mary Kaylor

Velda Mary Kaylor, 93, Presbyterian Home, Hollidaysburg, died Thursday night at the home. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Oscar and Essie M. (Darr) Burket. She married William Walter Kaylor in Huntingdon, PA, in 1939. He died on November 3, 2006. Velda is survived by her two children: Gail Flegal of Ardmore, PA, and William R. Kaylor and his wife Joan of Altoona, three grandchildren: Rebecca Joseph and her husband Brian of Wynnewood, PA, Melinda Sutton and her husband Sam of Charleston, WV, and Dr. David Kaylor and his wife Teresa of Ausitn, TX; 6 great grandchildren: Adam, Elijah, Katherine and Bradford Sutton of WV, and Wyatt and Reid Joseph of Wynnewood, PA; one sister-Joan Burket of Presbyterian Village, Hollidaysburg,as well as 8 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister-Mildred (Shenefelt) Hudson in 1977. Velda was a homemaker, prior to which worked at Shuttlecock Ltd. in Altoona. Her skills as a seamstress were highly regarded. She was a graduate of Altoona High School, class of 1937, and was a member of Juniata United Methodist Church, and formerly of Otterbein United Methodist, where she was active in ministry such as teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and all of the youth groups. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting, and gardening, and travelling with her husband. Together, they travelled to all of the lower 48 states, and also toured in their entirety every one of the PA state highways in all 67 counties. Velda's positive, gentle manor will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Friends will be received on from 6-8 PM Sunday, February 19, 2012, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc. and from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral service Monday, February 20, at the funeral home, with Pastor Brent Salsgiver, officiating. Interment at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juniata United Methodist Church, 808 N. 4th Street, Altoona, PA, 16601, or to the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg, PA, 16648.
