Bookhamer, Shirley Jean (Hippo)February 11, 1939-----March 14, 2012 Full obit and picture for Saturday, March 17, 2012 Shirley J. (Hippo), 73, Altoona, passed away at her home on Wednesday evening, March 14, 2012. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Jesse L. and mary E. (Drexler) Hippo. She mareeied Thomas F. Bookhamer, who preceded her in death on July 31, 2007. Surviving are her two sons: Donald C. Bookhamer and his wife Tawney, and Michael S. Bookhamer and his wife Judy; stepson Thomas , Jr., and his wife Jennifer; grandsons Corey and Ian, step grandsons Aaron, Adam, Dana, and Carl; one sister Helen M. Wolfe, and one brother Ernest L. Hippo and his wife Alberta; and her sister in laws: Shirley Hippo and Joann Hippo. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Kenneth O. Hippo and Charles W. Hippo. Shirley retired from the Commonwealth of PA as a case worker in energy assistance. Her greatest joy in life was loving her husband, sons, and grandsons. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., where a funeral service will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012, at 11 AM, with Pastor Dick Steurnagle, officiating. Interment at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central PA Humane Society, or to Relay for Life.
