Max Degyansky, 97, Altoona, died Saturday evening at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born in Altoona, son of Albert and Fannie (Grunwald) Degyansky. He married Virginia Dejaiffe, and she died in 2002. Surviving are a daughter, Regina Delap of Altoona; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Milan. Max was a graduate of Altoona High School. He retired as a general foreman from the Pennsylvania Railroad/Penn Central after many years of service. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and also belonged to the Jaffa Shrine, the Hiram Lodge and the former Jaffa Railroad Club. Max enjoyed bowling and woodworking, and he was the creator and patent holder for his invention, the gas cap wrench, which assisted people with arthritis. Friends will be received from 9 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata (www.maukandyates.com), the Rev. Arthur Shotts officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery.
