Sara Ellen Wagner

Sara Ellen "Sootie" (Fries) Wagner, 88, Altoona, died early Tuesday morning at Altoona Regional. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Jacob M. and Nettie M. (Walter) Fries. She married George M. Wagner on April 25, 1945, in Altoona at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Carol Nuttall and husband, William, of Pittsburgh; a son, Jeff of Altoona; two grandsons: Kristopher Nuttall and Andrew Nuttall and wife, Natalie, all of Pittsburgh; a brother, Kenneth E. Fries and wife, Pauline, of Altoona; a cousin, Flossie Wissinger of Venice, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Nell Charles of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews. Sara was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School and was active in the AAHS class reunion committee. She was an Avon representative for 43 years in the Llyswen area and also had worked for A&P. She volunteered at Altoona Hospital and the Altoona Area Public Library and participated in Relay For Life. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for 78 years, where she taught Sunday school and was active with women's classes, and for the past 10 years, she was a member of Simpson-Temple United Parish. Sara enjoyed baseball, Pittsburgh Penguins hockey and being at Stone Harbor with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to Vero Beach, sending cards to cheer people up and she loved jewelry. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2012, at Simpson-Temple United Parish, the Rev. Larry Louder officiating. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
