Beverly Jean Smith, 82, formerly of North Third Street, Juniata, died Friday afternoon at Valley View Home. Known as "Nan," she was born in Altoona, daughter of the late C. Clair and Ethel (Higgins) Ebersole. She married Claude Neil Smith on Sept. 11, 1946, in Winchester, Va. He died in January 1995. Surviving are four children: Sharon McClain of Montgomery, Ala., Bonnie Lombardi and Paul N. Smith, both of Altoona, and Christopher Smith of Lilly; ten grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Lombardi; two sisters: Marilyn Williams and Janet Harpster; and two special nieces: Donna Harpster Clarke and Adele Harpster. She was a graduate of Altoona High School. During her working years, she worked as a cutter at the Altoona Shoe Co. Her hobbies included bingo and card clubs. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home Inc. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Monsignor Stanley Carson officiating. Committal will be at Grandview Cemetery. www.maukandyates.com
