Joseph R. Stamm, 87, Hollidaysburg, died Saturday morning at Altoona Center for Nursing Care. He was born in Altoona, son of Foster and Ruth (Schiffler) Stamm. He married Audrey Zimmers, and she died Jan. 8, 2008. He is survived by a son, Dennis in Georgia. Joseph was a graduate of Altoona High School and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and he earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Syracuse University. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in both WWII and Korea. He was employed with Fullington Trailways and had previously been employed as a mechanical engineer with American Locomotive Co. and with Hanlon & Wilson Co., Pittsburgh. Joseph was a member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Altoona. He had lived in India, Argentina, Switzerland and Panama. He enjoyed traveling and loved playing poker with his friends. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
