Dale W. Woomer, 86, of Hollidaysburg, died Tuesday morning at Altoona Regional Hospital. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late George W. & Myrtle B. (Kennedy) Woomer. He married Norma L. Kauffman on January 18, 1947 in Altoona. She preceded him in death on October 16, 2005. Surviving are two sons, Dale R. Woomer (Karen), of Hollidaysburg, William L. Woomer (Lonnie), Huntingdon, three grandchildren, Naysa K. Woomer of Indiana, PA, Madison R. Woomer and William Dale Woomer, both of Huntingdon, two brothers, Dean Woomer, of Altoona, Donald Woomer in California, one sister, Barbara DeFlorentis in Baltimore, MD and sister in law Carol Musselman (Myrl) of Bedford. Also surviving is his special friend Donna. He was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters. Dale retired as senior full professor at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania School of Business. He received his Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree and PhD in Education Administration from Penn State University. He was a member and Past Master of Logan Lodge #490, F. & A.M., Altoona Consistory and Jaffa Shrine where he served as Potentate in 1983. He was also a member of the York Rite Bodies, Chapter Council in Commandry, Jaffa String Band which he organized in 1957 and served as past director, was a driver for the Jaffa Roadrunners which he was instrumental in setting up and had written their by-laws. He was also instrumental in setting up the 32nd degree Masonic Learning Center for dyslexic children, sponsored by the Altoona Scottish Rite, was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court #117, Cumberland, Maryland and was an honorary member of Court 70, Altoona. He was a combat veteran having served in World War II in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre where he received a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8pm Thursday, January 10, 2013 and from 10-11am Friday at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc.(www.maukandyates.com). A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Elizabeth A. Hess, officiating. Entombment at Alto Reste Park.
