Richard D. "Dick" Mauk, 89, of St. Petersburg, Florida, formerly of Altoona, died in Oak Manor Nursing Home, Largo, Florida, after a long battle with Alzheimers. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late John S. and Margaret (Shaal) Mauk. He was twice married, first to Lois E. Kochenderfer and then to Vivian Braun, both of whom preceded him in death. Surviving are two sons, Larry R. Mauk and wife Connie, of St. Petersburg, Florida, Robert A. Mauk and wife Sherry, of Hollidaysburg, PA, one daughter, Sherry L. Bennett and husband Rell, of Trenton, Florida, 3 grandchildren, Larry R. Mauk, Jr. and wife Elizabeth, Dawn Renee Benz, and husband Darrell, all of St. Petersburg, Florida, Jason P. Mauk and wife Jamie of Altoona, eight great grandchildren, Brandan Benz, Brittany Benz, Madyson Mauk, Anthony Mauk, all of St. Petersburg, Florida, Jackson Mauk, Jacob Mauk, Josiah Mauk and Joseph Mauk, all of Altoona, one sister, Marguerite McCloskey and husband Jim. He was preceded in death by two brothers, J. Preston Mauk and Robert P. Mauk and one grandson, Robert A. Mauk, Jr. Dick was a graduate of Altoona High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, having participated in campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He retired as a meat cutter at Swift Meatpacking Company in Tampa, Florida where he was also a union steward. He was a model train enthusiast and also loved building model airplanes. He was a member of Hiram Lodge #616, F. & A.M., the American Legion and VFW. Services were held in Florida.
