Richard J. "Jack" Sloey, 83, Altoona, died Tuesday morning at Epworth Manor, Tyrone. He was born in Altoona, son of Summerfield J. and Margaret R. (Lloyd) Sloey. He married Dolores Koegler on Feb. 27, 1954, at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife; two sons: Doug and wife, Connie, of Bellwood and Jeff and wife, Leah, of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren: Anna, John, Isabella, Caleb and Elijah; two siblings: Dorothea in California and Tom of Rochester, N.Y.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Jack was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. He retired from Chicago Rivet & Machine Co., Tyrone, after 23 years of service. He attended First Church of God, was a board member of the Salvation Army and volunteered with a prison ministry at Blair County Prison. Jack volunteered at Altoona Regional and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, June 28, 2013, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, Pastor Jerry Sneath officiating.
