Kenneth R. Krater, Sr., 85, of the Presbyterian Home at Hollidaysburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday evening after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Robert Thomas Krater and Elizabeth Marie (Harnden) Krater. He married Hazel M. Elders on April 23, 1946, in Cumberland, Maryland. She preceded him in death on July 6, 2008. Surviving are six children, Sherrie Doebler and husband Lee, Kenneth R. Krater, Jr. and wife, Sue, Connie Teeter and husband Jack, Carolyn Lee and husband, Pastor Tim, Robert and wife Kathi, Becky Gafken and husband Roger, 20 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren, one sister Donna Riley, two brothers, James Krater and Leo Krater. He was preceded in death by a sister, June Patterson. He was a graduate of Altoona High School and during World War II served in the Army Air Corps in radio communications. He was founder of Krater Electric Service which he owned and operated until his retirement. Mr. Krater was a charter member of Altoona Bible Church where he served as deacon and youth sponsor, taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. He was also on the board of Grace Ministries International, Grand Rapids, MI, and served on the board of the Central Pennsylvania Christian Institute. Friends will be received from 6-8pm Tuesday September 10,2013 and from 10-11am Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Altoona Bible Church, Union Avenue & 31st, Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday, September 11,2013, at Altoona Bible Church, with Rev. Stewart W. McClelland, officiating. Interment at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
