Mary Evelyn Wiggins

M. Evelyn Wiggins, 89, Altoona, died early Monday morning at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Le-Roy and Betsy (Bowers) Nearhoof. She married Robert M. Wiggins on June 13, 1957, at Salem Lutheran Church, Antis Township, and he preceded her in death Feb. 12, 1999. Surviving are a son, Spencer A. Wiggins (Kristin Komig); and a brother, Donald Nearhoof. She was preceded in death by all of her other siblings. Evelyn was a graduate of Bellwood High School. She had worked at Ward Trucking Co. and most recently at Bon Secours Hospital as the switchboard operator. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, bird-watching, her pets and spending time with her friends. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, where an Eastern Star service will be held at 7:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Salem Lutheran Church, Antis Township, the Rev. John Klingeman officiating. Interment will be at Antis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem Lutheran Church.
