Maryetta R. (Mills) Brown, 92, Homewood at Martinsburg, died Saturday. She was born in Altoona, daughter of Earl L. and Alfarata (Scott) Mills. She married Thomas P. Brown of Cumberland, Md., and he passed away in 1995 in Deerfield Beach, Fla., where they had lived for 23 years. She then moved to Elmcroft of Altoona to be near family. Surviving are a sister, Elizabeth R. Clark of Hollidaysburg; a brother, Raymond E. Mills and wife, Martha, of Hollidaysburg; a stepson, Eric C. Brown in California; and four nieces: Gayla Clark of Altoona, Cheri Clark in California, Robyn Confer of Howard and Molly McCaffrey and husband, Thomas, of Hollidaysburg. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth L. Mills. Maryetta was a 1940 graduate of Altoona High School. During WWII, she worked as an inspector and in the office at Bell Aircraft Corp. in Niagara Falls, N.Y. She saw the first fighter jet Bell Aircraft made, the P-39 Airacobra, and years later she and her husband visited the National Air & Space Museum in Washington, D.C., where the plane is on display. She then worked for years in retail for ladies' wear at Meyer Jonasson in Altoona, Hafters in San Diego and Nelson's Smartwear in Peoria, Ill. Maryetta had been an active member of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, which is now Juniata United Methodist Church, and she did volunteer work in Illinois and Florida. She and her husband liked to travel to London, Paris, Rome, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada and almost all of the big cities in the United States.
