Pastor L. Russell Ice, 91, Altoona, formerly of Delaware, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday. He was born in Fairmont, W.Va., the eldest son of the late Virgil and Louise Ice. He was preceded in death in 2006 by his wife of nearly 65 years, L. Elizabeth Ice. Surviving are two sons: Lawrence (Patricia) of Lebanon, Ohio, and Pastor William (Gena) of Altoona, with whom he had lived since November 2011; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Russell was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII with military training at the Citadel in Charleston, S.C. A graduate of Southland Bible Institute in Kentucky, he pastored churches in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia. He also was an educator, teaching Bible and pastoral classes at Southland Bible Institute, Pikeville, Ky., where he served as dean of students. Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service today, Jan. 25, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1450 Troy Road, Delaware, Ohio. Russell's son, Bill, will officiate. Burial will follow at Cheshire Cemetery.
