Thomas E. Hollobaugh, 65, Altoona, formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 7, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Thomas W. and Betty L. (Richards) Hollobaugh. Surviving are a sister, Eileen M. Hall (William) of Chambersburg; a niece, Holly Hollobaugh of Huntingdon; and five nephews: Terry Hollobaugh Jr. of Huntingdon, Dallas Hollobaugh (Audrey) of Patton, Earl Hollobaugh (Katrina) of Mount Union, Jonathan Hall (Karim) of Missoula, Mont., and Mark Hall (Amy) of Frostburg, Md. He was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Sr. Tom lived the early part of his life in the Juniata section of Altoona, graduating in 1966 from Altoona Area High School. He received a B.S. in accounting from Penn State University in 1975. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, serving from 1967-71 with several tours in Vietnam aboard the USCGC Minnetonka. He was employed by the Department of the Navy in Mechanicsburg as a systems analyst, retiring with more than 30 years of service. Tom was an active member of Juniata United Methodist Church, assisting in numerous church functions. He enjoyed collecting oriental artifacts, antiques, books and magazines. He was an avid reader, especially enjoying Western novels. He was a regular participant and fierce competitor in the Trivial Pursuit competition held at the Heidelberg Country Club each week. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Juniata United Methodist Church, North Fourth Street and North Eighth Avenue, Altoona. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Contributions in Tom's memory may be made to Juniata United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata.
