DAN PATTERSON, 78, DIED SUNDAY, APRIL 27, 2014, AT THE HOLLIDAYSBURG VETERANS HOME AFTER AN EXTENDED ILLNESS. HE WAS BORN IN ALTOONA, SON OF THE LATE RUSSELL AND IRENE (BURKETT) PATTERSON. HE MARRIED CAROL L. HUTCHISON IN 1958 IN ALTOONA. HE WAS PROCEDED IN DEATH BY A BROTHER, RAY PATTERSON. HE IS SURVIVED BY SON, DAVID PATTERSON AND WIFE LINDA , DAUGHTER CAROL PATTERSON FEDELI AND HUSBAND RAY, ALL OF ALTOONA. GRANDSON LUCAS PATTERSON. STEP-GRANDCHILDREN JENNIFER (ANDRE) TRAINER , JADY (ERIK) SCHLASS, KRISTOPHER (KRISTEN) FEDELI AND TYLER FEDELI. STEP-GREAT GRANDCHILDREN JACOB WILLS, LAYNA TRAINER AND JONAS SCHLASS. BROTHERS RUSSELL PATTERSON AND WIFE SHARON OF DOTHAN, AL, AND DONALD PATTERSON AND WIFE MARCIA OF LEXINGTON, NC. NIECES AND NEPHEWS BETH, MARK, TODD, JOHN, JILL, MEGAN, KYLE, SCOTT. AND GREAT NIECES AND NEPHEWS. DAN WAS ONE OF THE FIRST "BIG BROTHERS OF BLAIR COUNTY ." HE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY HIS "LITTLE BROTHER" JIM SHUTT OF FLORIDA, WHO REMAINED A LIFELONG FRIEND. HE GRADUATED FROM ALTOONA AREA HIGH SCHOOL IN 1953. HE SERVED IN THE US NAVY AND RESERVES FROM 1957 TO 1961 ABOARD THE U.S.S. RUSHMORE, WHERE HE WAS DULY INITIATED INTO THE "ORDER OF THE TOP OF THE WORLD." DAN RETIRED FROM HIS POSITION AS A SERVICE TECHNICIAN WITH TRW INC IN 1990 AFTER 30 YEARS OF SERVICE. HE LATER WORKED AT QUALITY CHEMICAL IN TYRONE UNTIL 1995. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE HILLTOP HUNTING CAMP, THE BAVARIAN AID SOCIETY, THE AMERICAN LEGION POST 0835, AND THE JUNIATA VFW, WHERE HE WAS A FORMER MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. DAN ENJOYED HUNTING, FISHING, NASCAR RACING, PENN STATE FOOTALL AND THE BLUE BAND, AND SPENDING TIME WITH HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS. FRIENDS WILL BE RECEIVED FROM 4 TO 7 PM WEDNESDAY AND 10 TO 11 AM THURSDAY AT MAUK AND YATES FUNERAL HOME IN JUNIATA, WITH A SERVICE TO FOLLOW AT 11 AM WITH REV. ANDRE TRAINER OFFICIATING.
