Patricia L Sonberger

Patricia Louise Sonberger November 26, 1932 -- April 28, 2014 Patricia Louise Sonberger, 81, a resident of Garvey Manor for the past fourteen months, passed way Monday evening at the home. She was born in Patton, PA, the daughter of Herman and Mae (Gauntner) Long. She married Charles J. Sonberger, March 26, 1952 at Fort Breckenridge, Kentucky. He preceded her in death December 7, 2002. She served in the U.S. Army for two years as a Post Locator. During her husband's army career, they lived in St. Thomas, PA, Harrisburg, Hawaii, McKees Rocks, PA, Kansas City, Sarver, PA and Coraopolis, PA. She relocated to Altoona in 2005. Surviving are one son, Charles C. Sonberger; a special brother and sister-in-law, Ernie and Donna Long; brothers: John (Marie) and Bill (Barbara) Long; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her only daughter, Charlene, a brother, Herman J. Long and a niece, Susan. Pat enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens, baking, poetry, and decorating her home. She was a member of Saint Mark's Catholic Church and a former member of Saint Margaret Mary in Coraoplis. Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, May 2, at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N. 4th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 3 at Saint Mark's Catholic Church, 416 6th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602 with Father Ronald Osinski officiating. Entombment will be made at the Coraopolis Cemetery in Coraopolis, PA.
