Justin R Poole

Justin R. Poole, 89, of Altoona, formerly of Bellevue, PA, passed away Thursday morning at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care. He was born in Connellsville, he was the son of the late Correll J. and Florence (Rowen) Poole. He married Sarah Jane Gratz on June 19, 1948 in Bellevue, PA who preceded him in death on April 12, 1982. Justin retired as an English teacher from the Pittsburgh Public Schools. He received a bachelor's and a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh and served in the Army during World War II from February 1943 to February 1946. Surviving are two sons: David J. Poole of Altoona and Douglas G. Poole and wife Karen of Ligonier; one grand-daughter: Elizabeth Van Dyke and husband Cameron of St. Clairsville, OH; two grandsons: Eric Poole and wife Jennifer of Trumbull, CT and Everett Poole and companion, Sue of Johnstown; two sisters: Jane Grey Crossland of Dover, DE and Joanne Thomas of Somers, CT. He was preceded in death one brother, Joseph S. Poole. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8pm Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N. 4th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601, where a funeral service will be held at 10am Monday, with Pastor Jason Schwartzman, officiating. Interment at Allegheny Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Parkinson's Disease Association.
