Irene G Hayes

Irene G. Hayes died on June 21, 2014 in Martinsburg, PA. She was born in Newfoundland, Canada, the daughter of the late Augustus and Lucy Ann (Hodder) Purchase. Mrs. Hayes was married to James V. Candy 1937-1944 (PARR) and to Donald B. Hayes 1946-1976 (Chief of Police, town of Bedford, NY). She is survived by two daughters, Carol A. (Peter) Young of Westford, VT and Bonita L. (James Andrew) Bloom of Duncansville, PA. Also surviving are four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hayes was a stenographer-secretary for the town of Bedford, NY for forty years. She attended Gaines Business School, Manhattan, NY for two years post high school. After the deaths of her parents and husbands, she earned a BS degree in Science and Arts from Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, NY in 1989. Private family services will be held. She will be interred at Bedford Union Cemetery in Bedford, NY. Memorial donations may be made to the American Society Cancer, Blair Unit, 1004 North Juniata Street, Hollidaysburg PA, 16648.
