Francis D. "Alex" Alexander, 81, Altoona, passed way Sunday evening at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Juniata, son of the late Edgar James and Evelyn Pearl (Keith) Alexander. He married Mary L. Ciambotti on June 20, 1959, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Juniata. Surviving are a daughter, Teri Moore and husband, Curtis, of State College; a son, David of Altoona; a granddaughter, Alexandra Moore; two grandsons: Owen and Conrad Moore; and a brother, James of Tyrone. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda; twin grandsons: Lawrence and James Moore; and three sisters: Wanda Beichler, Faye Williams and Doris Burkholder. Alex was a graduate of the Altoona School of Commerce and served in the U.S. Navy from December 1951 to November 1955 during the Korean Conflict. He had been employed by Small Tube Products Inc. as an assistant quality control supervisor and retired in 1995. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 551, Altoona, and the Bavarian Aid Society, and he enjoyed bowling. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 900 N. Fourth St., Juniata, Monsignor Michael E. Servinsky officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
