William L. Lowey Sr., 88 of Graystone Manor, formerly of Juniata, died Friday after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, son of Louis H. Lowey and Edith (McGee) Lowey. He married Helen Clara Hornberger on July 2, 1948. She preceded him in death in June of 2005. Surviving are two sons: William Jr. (Laura) of Altoona and George (Sue) of Bald Eagle; four grandchildren: Thayne Lowey (Amy) of Duncansville, Hershel Lowey (Amy) of Altoona, Eric Lowey (Li) of Port Matilda, and Jonathan Lowey of Bald Eagle; and nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Norma Sickles, Pat Ravina and Vicki Good. He was preceded in death by three siblings: Michael Lowey, Jeanette Brobst and Rose Lowey. He retired from Conrail as a machinist after many years of service and proudly served in the U. S. Army during W.W.II. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., and the Buccinese Society. William enjoyed trips to the casinos, crossword puzzles, and television westerns. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E.
